With the 2008 Municipal League Draft almost upon us, pressure is mounting to get the right player at the right spot. Hot corner is the position with the least amount of players in the hall of fame. And rightfully so, there just aren't very many great third basemen. Austin Powers made one keeper pick and it was for third sacker Eddie Matthews, the Saint Paul Saints tied up Pete Rose. That leaves Dick Allen at $14 million and Mike Schmidt at $10 million at the top of the heap. Schmidt should go quickly, but Allen is out of most teams' budget. So who is the right player at third? Could it be Wade Boggs, the pest who always seems on base. Maybe George Brett, or maybe a cheap solid guy like Ron Santo for only $3 million.
The draft's best value at third may be Chipper Jones. He has a good on base percentage, hits for power, decent glove and a switch hitter. The Municipal League contains 16 teams. There are definitely not 16 decent third basemen. Ten if you stretch it. How will us six compensate?

Chipper is overrated. SO IS BOGGS
