The Lindstrom Sluggers…
Metropolitan Stadium. Home of the 2009 Lindstrom Sluggers. Hope they can dodge all the carnival rides at Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America. Calvin Griffith summed the stadium up when he proclaimed “There is not a finer facility in all of minor league baseball.”
What could work: Metropolitan Stadium was a hitters park for right-handed pull hitters. The foul line in right was supposedly at 330 feet, but that was a measurement toward right-center. The Lindstrom manager was wise to bring in Carew, Oliva, Yogi, and Ted Williams into this park. They should do well. Carl Hubbell, Bob Feller, and Nolan Ryan will anchor the pitching staff. All three should have 15 to 20 wins between them.
What could fail: Al Kaline hasn’t played well in the ML. Hugh Duffy and Maury Wills are little speed demons, but they need to get on base first. The infield is a bit suspect. If they have good years, the prediction for this team will be way off. While no one wants to face the big three pitchers, if the opposition can get past them, they’ll have a shot at winning. Firpo Marbury and Bobo Newsom just don’t sound as imposing at Hubbell, Feller, and Ryan. Karma: The last three tenants of Metropolitan Stadium lost their final games there; the Twins, the Vikings, and who can forget, the Kicks.
Result: 76 -86. For the past two years Rabbit Ray hasn’t thought much of the chances of the squad from Lindstrom…and each year they’ve won their division. So Lindstrom fans can rejoice that once again they’re picked to finish last in their division.
