Zane's Smite the Rubble - Move to NL Championship Series
Jim Bettendorf and his Zane Grays took three of four from the NL Wildcard Entrant - Rockvillle Rubble. Two of the Grays wins came in the last inning.
Game One - Hosting the first game of the series, the Grays knocked out Rubble's Starter Hal Newhouser early and score 5 runs in the second. That big Gray inning was enough for a 9-4 win.
Game Two - Matthewson was on the hill for the Rubble needing a win to stay in the series. Preacher Roe matched him pitch for pitch in this defensive battle. The Rockville Rubble's pinch hitter Joe Sewell hit a two run 10th inning homer for a 3-1 win.
Game Three - Roger Clemens was on the mound for the Rubble at home to take advantage of the momentum swing. The momentum didn't last long as the Grays got to Clemens early. Two home runs by Juan Gonzalez help earn the Grays the series lead with a 8-3 win.
Game Four - Steve Carlton goes 8 holding the Rockville Rubbles in check. Lary goes all Doby for the Grays, slamming two homers for a 4-3 series clinching win.
The Grays will take on the New York Knights for the NL League Championship.
Little Falls Lucky Lindy's Owner Manager Andy Spofford Named Rookie Manager of the Year
Congratulations go out to Rookie Owner Andy Spofford, as his collegues named him rookie manager of the year. The Little Falls Lucky Lindy's finished 2nd in the American League East with an 81-81 record. According to the Little Falls Front Office, "We are proud of Andy and our success in the 2009 Municipal League Campaign. Owner Spofford had an outstanding draft that allowed him to compete with the League veterans, in fact, Andy looked to experienced work collegues Chas Bettendorf and Wayne Schwable and made the determined that he was better off on his own." The front office is looking forward to 2010 with the belief that they have a solid foundation for a very competitve Club.
Lakers Hammer Past Austin.
The Pequot Lakers hosted Austin Powers in the American League Wild Card Round. The hard fought series saw the Lakers slide past the Austin Club and will face the Small Ball of Gahanna for the American League Championship.
Hammerin' Hank Aaron drove in 10 runs in four games. He added three homeruns, a double and triple. Game Highlights:
Game One - The Powers of Austin knocked Laker Ace Cy Young after two innings.. Mo Vaughn's three run triple knocked the pitcher on his heals, Eddie Matthews single driving home Al Pujols sent him to the showers. The Powers took game one 6-2.
Game Two - Lakers jumped on Power's Dean Chance taking a 5 run lead on a three-run Hank hammer and later a two-run double. However, Powers trying to take a commanding lead tied the score in the eighth inning at 6 apiece, on Matthews and Martinez homers. In the 9th, Manny Sanguillen doubled in Ty Cobb to knot the series at one game each. 7-6 Lakers.
Game Three - Treating the host poorly, Hamerin' Hank drilled a grandslam in the first to push the Laker led to four. However once again the Powers fight back, tying the score through the nineth inning. In the 10th, the Lakers score 3 on compliments of a Javy Lopez two-run double. Powers scratches two more, falling just one run short and now a one game deficit. 8-7 Lakers.
Game Four - Once again the Lakers jumped out early staking a 5 run led. The five was more than enough comfort for Cy Young to earn his first win and the Lakers first chance at a Championship. Lakers 6-3.
