Not what you bargained for?

With Amnesty Day closing upon us, I took a gander at what was not expected. 2009 Playoff Hero Juan Gonzalez was scorching for the Zanes. This year not so much, with a batting average of .222 and a measly on base percentage of .258. Juan has been a streaky hitter so he just might be due. On the flip side, Tony Gwynn has been a consistent hitting machine. The Jack Rabbit Runners drafted Gwynn to be table setter, but with a batting average of .246 and on base percentage of .276 the Runners are going hungry. It doesn’t help the Runners either that your ace Jim Palmer sports a 7.99 ERA and a 2-8 record.

Its been awhile since the Stillwater Steam had, well um, steam. Key pitcher Ron Guidry is 1-6 with a 6.75 ERA, and Joe Carter has a batting average of .174 and a microscopic on base percentage of .206 and a non functioning slugging percentage of .266. With that kind of performance you have to question your luck.

Unless you are the Irish Kickers. The Kickers play in Citizen Bank Park, which has never been known as a pitchers park even on snowy days. Carl Yastremski is their best hitter with a batting average of .247. Check out the rest of their lineup:

  • Dale Murphy batting average .181, on base percentage .269, slugging .281
  • Jeff Kent batting average .156, on base percentage .227, slugging .227
  • Harmon Killebrew batting average .207, on base percentage .304, slugging .385
  • Ernie Banks batting average .207, on base percentage .241
  • Johnny Bench batting average .221, on base percentage .286, slugging .442
  • Reggie Jackson batting average .221
  • Fred Lynn batting average .237

Good thing the Coach has something like a basketball coaching career to distract him from another snake-bit start in the Municipal League.
