Baumann will be inducted into MBCA Hall of Fame
Thursday, 22 April 2010
North Branch Area Public Schools (NBAPS) has learned that boys basketball coach Bill Baumann will be inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) Hall of Fame later this year.
Baumann was named head coach of boys basketball at NBAPS in 1979 and has held that post ever since. This year is his final year though, as Baumann has announced his intention to retire at the end of the school year. In the course of his long career at NBAPS, Baumann has coached basketball for 31 years. He has been a teacher for 37 years. He has also coached other sports as well, including serving as an assistant for football, baseball, and softball. His overall record as a head basketball coach is 414-335. His teams have won six Rum River Conference Championships and two have qualified for the state tournament.
Activities Director Mike Cunningham had this to say about Baumann, “North Branch Area High School is extremely proud of coach Baumann receiving this honor. With this induction, he now joins the likes of Bob McDonald of Chisholm, Louie Mitteco of Totino-Grace, Wally Trochlil of Elk River, and Al Bauman of Little Falls. It is uncommon to see a head coach remain in the same school for 30 years. This is a true testament to his love of North Branch, and that coach Baumann truly bleeds Viking red! He will be missed, and we wish him a happy retirement.”
This year’s MBCA Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 31
