Where are the utility players? Of course there aren’t any given the fact that these are in season all-stars. What’s the big deal with a utility guy? Not much unless there aren’t any. With 25 man rosters, injuries and fatigue you can’t afford to leave a single position only one deep. With a pitching staff of 11, there are only 14 guys to cover 8 positions, 9 if you count DH. So then what is the value of Tampa Bay Rays (09) Ben Zobrist? The guy hits .297, plays decently 1B, 2B, 3B, SS and all outfield positions, plus 27 homers. Supply and demand. Demand for Ben has to be way up, especially since there is such a short supply.
