On April 28, 2011 Bob Purkey stepped to the mound for the Splendid Splinters.  With Irish leadoff hitter Hanley Ramirez digging in, Purkey fired in high and tight drilling Ramirez in the back.   With Ramirez dancing off first, the homeplate umpire sent the teams to the dugout to avoid the incoming rain.  After a 37 minute rain delay, the game resumed.  After a first ball pitch to Pucket, Purkey picked off Hanley at first.  Bob did not let another batter reach first, even putting up with another rain delay, the second one lasting 84 minutes at the top of the third.  A fourth inning Harlon Clift rbi single drove home Phil Nevin to seal the history making pitching performance.
