Game Five

Jacobs Field

Knotted up two games apiece, the Monroe's sent Jose Rijo (16-10) to the mound to match the Knights Sam McDowell. McDowell already won game number one in this series for the Knights. Rijo's start was his first action of the series.

After sitting the Monroe's down in order in the first, the Knights went to work. A Jeter double, a Doby walk and a Lajoie single led off the first. Jeter and Doby came around to score putting the Knights up by two. In the second, Jeter hit a one-out single, followed by a Doby homer to right center. This gave the Knights a commanding four run led.

Sam McDowell went nine shutout innings with not a single threat by the Monroe's. The Knights tacked on an additional 5 runs for a 9-0 win and a three games to two advantage heading back to Coors Field.
