Big Doin's In '09

The Municipal League has completed the first two months of the 2009 Season. The rookie owners are trying to find their barrings, 2008's Champ has stumbled out of the gate and the Pequot Lakers are the Municipal Leagues TorchBearers.

Notable Individual performances Through June 3

Stillwater Steam's Rogers Hornsby hit in 18 consecutive games. Austin Powers Ichiro Suzuki is still active at 12 games

Austin Powers Yaz, Millers Frank Robinson and GSB's Barry Bonds hit homers in 5 consecutive games. In fact Bonds homerun streak was still active when he was released during Amnesty week.

Little Fall Lucky Lindy's David Ortiz and Lindstrom Sluggers Ted Williams were credited with an RBI in 9 consecutive days, But the most amazing feat of 2009 in my opinion was Ted Williams reaching base 14 consecutive times (May 2-5). 14 times up, 14 times on base. Wow.

The no hitter is very elusive in the Municipal League. So far Knights Josh Beckett and Jack Rabbit Runners Pedro Martinez each took a no hitter into the 8th. PC's Breshnahan and STP's Bonilla each stopped the string with a hit.

New York Knights John Smoltz had a 10 game win streak, while GSB's Ugeth Urbina has a 12 games consecutive game streak that is still active. Urbina started the year off blowing 3 consecutive saves.

3L's David Ortiz hit 3 consecutive homers on April 16. AP's Frankie Frisch, Runners Gary Carter and GSB's Mike Piazza each had a 6 straight hit streak.

Team Big Innings - On April 4th the Gahanna Small Ball hit 3 consecutive homers in the first inning, while the New York Knights hit 3 consecutive homers in the 7th inning on April 27th. Both outburst came against the Rockville Rubble.

Stadium Facts

Marilyn Monroes' Coors Field is the home run kingdom with 107 thus far. The Pequot Lakers hotbox Colt Stadium is the stingiest with just 43 homers.

The Irish Kickers Citizens Bank Ball Park sports a .280 Batting Average while the Potato City Mashers and Colt Stadium is where hitters to to die, with a slim .224 batting average.

New York Knight Fans have certainly got their moneys worth already hosting 8 extra inning games at Jacobs Field.

Down but not out! Amazingly Wayne Schwalbe's Saint Paul Saints already have 24 come from behind wins, over twice as much as any other squad.
